WSFM will join Triple M in playing all-Australian music on January 26

WSFM has announced that it will celebrate Australia Day with a day of all-Australian Music.

The news comes after Triple M revealed it would hold a new ‘Ozzest 100’ countdown on January 26, in response to triple j‘s decision to move their Hottest 100 countdown away from the date.

On WSFM’s website, the announcement encourages listeners to register their details and write a few words about their favourite Aussie track, to go in the running to win a BBQ.

“Is there any better way to celebrate Australia Day than with a BBQ and some great Pure Gold Aussie hits?” WSFM’s statement asked.

“We’re looking for your favourite Aussie track – whether it’s Men at Work’s Land Down Under, Midnight Oil’s Power and the Passion or Silverchair’s Straight Lines… tell us what you want, and it could be added to our all Aussie playlist which will be run across (you guessed it) Australia Day!”

“WSFM has a long history of running music specials, including on Australia Day, designed to enhance the music offering for our audiences by playing even more of the songs they love,” a spokesperson for ARN told News Corp.

The announcement also revealed that the winner will have their prize personally delivered by WSFM Breakfast hosts Jonesy and Amanda.

During triple j’s public consultation process in 2017, almost 65,000 listeners weighed in with their opinion on the date of the Hottest 100, with 60% wanting the date changed as it was insensitive to Indigenous Australians.
