Triple M Taree trip doesn’t go to plan

Staff Writer

Triple M’s national drive show, Merrick Watts, Julian Schiller and Rachel Corbett were live from Taree today. Unfortunately, it didn’t go quite as smoothly as planned.

Former Austereo, dmg and 96FM jock Steve Fitton is retired from radio these days, and living back in his hometown of Taree running his coffee business, Steve sent Radio Today this snapshot of todays events in Taree.

Over to Steve….

Sadly a few of the old fellas at Taree Men’s Shed weren’t happy about the invasion and intrusion, and pretty much exploded at Norm, and the Triple M tech and Producer.

I had offered free coffees from my truck, because I wanted a pic of it with the Carbeque, and after a quick visit to confirm (at 11.30am) I had one more customer to visit. But when I returned(at 11.50) it was all closed and locked up.

I drove up the road and found the Carbeque at the OTHER men’s shed in Taree. I gave out some coffees and took these pics (below).

It appears that a few cantankerous old blokes shut the whole thing down and caused a few people to waste their time and money for a good idea, that was shut down by a few old dickheads. As a Taree local I am embarrassed, and as a former jock I am awed at the restraint that Merrick and his mates have shown on air this afternoon.

I just wanted a pic of my truck with the Carbeque. Sadly, Taree missed out on what should have been a fun afternoon.

I rang the President of the Taree Men’s Shed, and he was close to tears, and very humiliated by the actions of 3 of his members.

The pics below are of my truck with the Triple M vehicle, and the fellas from the OTHER Men’s Shed who were awesome.

Cheers

Steve Fitton
