triple j’s Hottest 100 voting now open

Former Assistant Editor

It’s that time of year again when triple j listeners cast their minds back across the year that was and start to whittle down choices for the station’s annual Hottest 100 countdown.

triple j announced last month that the 2017 countdown won’t be held on Australia Day for the first time in over a decade, and instead will take place on Saturday January 27.

The decision was made after a long public consultation process, where 60% of the 64,990 listeners polled wanted the date changed as it was culturally insensitive to indigenous peoples.

The latest time triple j held their annual countdown on a different day was in 2003.

Voting is open from now until 9am on Monday January 22, and by voting you’ll automatically go in the draw to win triple j‘s Golden Ticket – getting you and a plus one into every triple j supported gig and festival in 2018 (including Laneway, Splendour, Sydney City Limits, Groovin’, Falls, Field Day, FOMO and stacks more).

triple j will back up on Sunday January 28 with the songs that didn’t quite make the first hundred spots; the Hottest 200.

Australian artists have dominated the #1 spot over the past few years, with FlumeThe Rubens and Chet Faker taking home the biggest popular vote over the last three countdowns.

So chuck your list together and when you’re good and ready, vote here.
