Three Questions: Joan Warner

Staff Writer

It’s been a big 2015 in radio, and as the year wraps up we are asking a bunch of you three quick questions.

Next up it’s Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia.

Biggest challenge facing the industry in next 12-months?

A major challenge for radio as a very highly (some would say over) regulated industry will be continuing to grow our revenue in the face of increasing competition from non-regulated communications and media companies. We will do this by keeping our clients and agencies informed of the very real and impressive story of radio’s reach and influence across all age demographics and by working with Government  to deregulate our industry as much as possible by eliminating outdated regulation and duplication of regulation where it exists.

The year in review, what are you most pleased with from 2015.

Commercial radio has been innovative in adapting to new platforms – DAB+, social and digital – and has been unified in telling that story to advertisers through our brand campaign and research. That’s helped drive growth in advertising revenue for both metropolitan and regional stations in a difficult climate for traditional media.
