The Music Network Chart Wrap: Sept 25

In this weekly piece for Radio Today, the crew from The Music Network will let us know what's going on in music with their Chart Wrap.

HOT 100

No movement in the top 5 this week but there’s been plenty of shuffling through the rest of the top 10. Imagine Dragons have moved from #8 to #6 with their single On Top Of The World. They’re currently sitting at #16 in the ARIA singles chart and #20 on the Shazam Australian top tags. Flo Rida and Pitbull's Can’t Believe It is up 2 places to #7, while Ellie Goulding’s Burn and One Republic’s Counting Stars have both moved down to occupy #8 and #9 respectively.

Due to additions before an official service, Timomatic’s new single Waterfalls has debuted on the Hot 100 at #28, ahead of Lorde’s Team at #51, despite placing behind her in Most Added this week. A fantastic feat from Lorde and her team, to think her third single this year would debut just outside the top 50 before its official servicing last Wednesday is a testament to all involved, and her true star power. This week in the US her debut single Royals knocked Miley Cyrus off #1 in the iTunes chart, following the Billboard magazine cover a few weeks ago. It’s obvious we’ve yet to see her final form.

The poster boy of Melbourne sound: Will Sparks, and collaborator Joel Fletcher have dropped into the charts just behind our favourite Kiwi at #52 after a string of adds on NOVA, Today networks and other major stations a week before their track's official servicing. They’re also currently sitting at #6 in Shazam’s top tags and #7 on the ARIA Dance chart, a tremendous effort by the young Aussie dance producer which is almost certainly due to clubland plays.

Naughty Boy and Emeile Sande’s latest effort Lifted is in at #40 this week and Bliss N Eso’s House Of Dreams has re-entered the Hot 100 at #60, after a re-servicing breathed new life into the single.

Redfoo got ridiculous on us with a jump from #75 to #14 in the space of seven days. It seems everywhere you look his single is being played. #7 on Shazam proves that saturation is key in this game and he’s done it so very well. Drake is up 12 spots, which sees Hold On, We’re Going Home sitting just outside our top 10, with John Newman and Miley Cyrus both making solid gains over the week to join him.

ARIA SINGLES

Katy Perry has fought off Redfoo (currently #3) this week to reclaim her spot atop the ARIA singles chart, making this her fourth week in prime position. Miley Cyrus has moved up to second place as Wrecking Ball continues to smash records all over the world. God knows what kind of mayhem will be dealt out when her new album Bangerz is dropped on us all!

Drake’s Hold On, We’re Going Home is up five spots from last week to sit in ninth place, which equals his previous best-achieved with Take Care in 2012. This comes the same week as the single sits atop the Shazam Australia chart – clearly people are talking. Let’s hope this translates to an Australian tour. Lorde is in at #19 with Team. It’s the second single from her forthcoming debut album Pure Heroine and her third entry to the charts, both other entries are The Love Club EP and Tennis Court, which are still sitting at #12 and #24 on their respective charts.

Irish rockers Kodaline have made their ARIA debut at #25 with their High Hopes EP. Their debut album In A Perfect World has also debuted at #24 in the ARIA albums chart. Sitting just behind them, Timomatic’s Waterfalls has dropped in at #25, he reached #3 back in July with Parachute, can he match it?

ARIA ALBUMS

Keith Urban has debuted at #1 with Fuse this week mirroring the albums performance in the US Billboard 200. Fuse is the eighth studio album from the country star and his second chart topper. It features big singles Little Bit Of Everything and Shame. Avicii’s debut album True has come in at #2, the album that includes chart topper Wake Me Up and You Make Me (soon to follow in to the top of the chart). It's literally a collection of monster hits. Shame On Me featuring Nile Rodgers is soon to impact, we predict big things.

Jack Johnson is in at #3 with his sixth album From Here To Now To You. It’s his first album not to debut in first place since 2005. The last debut inside the top 10 this week comes in the form of Loud Like Love from Brit rockers Placebo, it’s their seventh offering and their first since 2009.

Just outside the top 10 sit The Naked And Famous, their second album In Rolling Waves has made its debut at #12, and finally the 30th studio album from Sir Elton John The Diving Board has debuted at #26. Though he’s not been in hiding, having collaborated with Leon Lewis and Pnau in the meantime, this is his first solo release since ’06.
