HOT 100

Pharrell has remained safely on top of the charts once again this week, as airplay for Happy continues in his favour. There’s no stopping the young man, whose killer year in 2013 set him up for a monstrous run in 2014. The single is the tenth most tagged track in Australia according to Shazam, and is currently #1 in the UK’s Airplay chart, #3 in the countries single chart and #2 in iTunes.

Just behind him, John Legend remains at #2, and Rude by California’s MAGIC! continues its run up the charts, rising one spot from last week to sit at #3.

Joel Fletcher is on the up again with Swing jumping four places to sit at #4. He’s receiving some crazy airplay to be in that position, with just ten majors, seven P2 and three P3 stations playing his song. All this love comes off the back of Avicii’s True Tour on which Joel Fletcher was a support act. The single is currently #1 on the ARIA Dance chart and our own Dance chart, ahead of Avicii. Speaking of Avicii he’s up three spots from last week to #7 with Addicted To You, and right behind him is Wake Me Up collaborator Aloe Blacc with The Man. Debuting at #13 last week, The Man has jumped a further five spots to sit within the top 10. Big news for the man who not so long ago ‘needed a dollar’.

Outside of the top 10, Rihanna sits at #11 – up from #32 last week – with Jump. A rise of 21 spots in one week is no small feat. We’re expecting big things from this one as it's currently being played on 76 stations across the country. A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera’s Say Something is also up at #12 this week from 24. It’s currently #3 on the Shazam chart, #6 in the ARIA Streaming chart and #1 in the ARIA Singles chart.

Vance Joy’s Riptide is climbing the charts again, up from #37 to #27, no doubt due to the triple j Hottest 100 win. The single has also experienced a spike on the ARIA charts over the last 2 weeks. Everyone’s fascination with Guy Sebastian’s Like A Drum seems to have ended; the single has had a sharp drop from #11 last week to #29 – a good run, 12 weeks in total if you count the Christmas break.

The highest debut this week comes from Michael Paskalev’s I Spy in at #32, a good effort for the young Norwegian. The biggest gains of the week go to Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne for Rather Be. Clean Bandit seem to be blowing up around the world at the moment, having just claimed a record from Spotify UK for being the fastest ever Most-Played track with 1.09 million streams in a single week. It’s the first track to do so since Daft Punk’s Get Lucky last year. They’re currently sitting pretty at #1 in iTunes UK, #2 in UK Airplay, #1 in UK Singles and were the third most added track to radio this week here. What an impressive impact the young group are making.

The Aston Shuffle have moved up 27 places from last week’s #70 debut for Tear It Down, and Sara Bareilles has debuted this week at #49 with her track Brave.

ARIA SINGLES

Just missing the top spot last week didn’t discourage A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera this time around, as Say Something hits pole position in its sixth week in. It’s the third time Christina Aguilera has hit #1 in ARIA singles, previously hitting the top with Lady Marmalade and Beautiful. Happy by Pharrell Williams, Swing by Joel Fletcher and Savage, All Of Me from John Legend and Free from Rudimental round out the top 5.

A week on from Avicii’s album True topping the ARIA albums chart, Addicted To You has broken the ARIA top 10, up five spots from last week to hit #6. Rihanna’s Jump has also graced the top 10 this week at #9. It’s up 12 spots from last week and is Rihanna’s 20th top 10 single. Her first was Pon De Replay from back in 2005, which peaked at #6.

ARIA ALBUMS

MKTO have topped the ARIA Albums chart with their self-titled debut record. The pop duo first appeared on the ARIA charts in April last year, with the single Thank You.

The second album from ARIA Award winning Sydney Quartet The Jezabels entitled The Brink has come in at #2 this week. It enters the chart at the same position as their debut album Prisoner back in 2011. The Very Best Of INXS is at #4, ahead of the screening of INXS mini-series Never Tear Us Apart. It’s a new peak for The Very Best, while Never Tear Us Apart has jumped back into the singles chart at #45 this week.

Dolly Parton’s Blue Smoke (her 42nd studio album!) has entered the chart at #10 this week. The album features duets with Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson as well as a cover of Bob Dylan’s Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright. Parton is currently in the country, her national tour kicking off this week.
