Survey #1 2017: Wheatbelt WA results are in

Staff Writer

The first ever survey results for the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia are in, covering the commercial radio licence areas of Narrogin, Northam, Katanning and Merridin.

Not surprisingly, the Hit, Triple M and ABC networks dominate the region’s results, tussling for the top three spots in the majority of key slots and demographics.

ABC Great Southern WA was the most listened to station among people 10+ with 23.4%. Triple M Wheatbelt trailed at 18.9% and Hit Wheatbelt at 17.8%.

The battle for the drive shift was tight with ABC Great Southern securing a 21.2% audience share – edging out both Triple M’s Cliff Reeve and Hit’s prominent duo Hamish & Andy with 19.4% and 19.1% respectively.

It was the same story at breakfast with ABC Great Southern steaming ahead with 26.3%. Hit’s Ned & Josh came in second with 17.5% while Triple M’s Verity took third position with 16.4%.

Naturally, triple j attracted strong support in the 18-24 and 25-39 brackets but still fell behind Hit and Triple M in both categories.

The research was conducted by Xtra Insights, the industry’s official provider of regional radio surveys. Results from other West Australian regions, Mandurah and Esperance, will be released later this quarter.
