Star-studded radio; smooth fm’s countdown & new weekend host

Staff Writer

The 1977 smash How Deep Is Your Love by the Bee Gees was yesterday’s #1 on smoothfm’s annual Top 500 Countdown.

Also in this year’s top 5 was Abba’s Dancing Queen (#2), Michael Buble’s Home (#3), George Michael’s Careless Whisper (#4), and Dolly & Kenny’s Islands in the Stream (#5).

smoothfm’s head of programming Peter Clay and PD Georgie Page enlisted some big names to present the week-long programming; among the celebrities were Olivia Newton-John, Grammy award winning Garry Gibb, Dolly Parton, John Farnham, Richard Wilkins and more.

Talking to Radio Today, Georgie said, “smoothfm’s Top 500 Countdown is the team’s favourite time of the year! It enables us to play the songs that our listeners tell us they love, and Paul Jackson and Kate Mason do a sensational job at building the ultimate countdown of their favourite music.

“It is very special to have some so many big-name guests involved to count down the Top 100 on Australia Day which gives us an incredible point of difference – and is something they are always delighted to be involved as they see how popular so many of their hits are with our audience.”

Smoothfm also announced today that Don Henley of The Eagles is joining their weekend line-up between 29 January and 19 February from 4pm.
