Singles Report: Sheeran, Stargate and radio’s most added

Staff Writer

Ed Sheeran steals the show in this week’s Australian Singles Report, The Music Network’s weekly snapshot of 40 local and international charts with predictive data, radio reports and album releases.

While smash single Castle On The Hill reclaims the #1 position on the Artist Top 50 after topping the chart seven weeks ago, the release of new album ÷ (Divide) has seen the majority of tracks on the record storm into the charts.

Sheeran dominates the Shazam Movers with entries at #4, #5, #8, #10, the highest being Perfect. However, It pales in comparison to the unprecedented domination demonstrated by the Brit on the International LyricFind chart. There are only two places in the Top 10 not occupied by Sheeran – yes, eight spots are filled up with tracks from ÷.

The Brit also holds the top two spots on the Hot 100 with Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill while KIIS, Nova and Triple M continue to put their support behind the two tracks, gaining Top 5 entries in their spins charts.

As predicted, Lorde blew all competition out of the water last week with her triumphant comeback single Green Light. It received over 80 recorded additions across the entirety of Australian radio, including adds from the Nova Network (it was the only track added across the board), both KIIS stations, Hit Regional Network and commercial Hit stations.

On top of all this, Lorde also garnered the support of triple j, receiving an addition to its days playlist and making a crossover into alternative radio.

Elsewhere, Norwegian production and songwriting duo Stargate kick off their career as lead artists with a stellar debut single Waterfall ft. P!nk & Sia.

Taking this week’s #1 New Single To Radio, it’s not the first taste of success the pair have experienced; Stargate have contributed to a number of well-known hits including Grammy Award-winning Miss Independent by Ne-Yo and Rihanna’s Only Girl In The World.
