Hit92.9’s Ryan Jon finally meets birth father following viral Mother’s Day video

Former Assistant Editor

Hit92.9 Breakfast host Ryan Jon has given an update in his quest to find his birth mother, revealing that he is now a step closer after tracking down his biological father in London. It all began with a very simple Ancestry DNA test.

In the latest update he reveals that he flew to England and met his father as well as his two half brothers for the first time.

Ryan’s plight first came to the fore when he posted a video to Facebook on Mother’s Day 2017 about being adopted.

The video was picked up by several viral pages and mum blogs, and has now been viewed by over 580 million people.

Ryan received messages of support from all around the globe, from other adopted people as well as birth mums, as well as many people encouraging him to do an Ancestry DNA test.

He then hooked up with DNA researcher CeCe Moore of US television show Find My Roots, who took the results of his Ancestry test and found his birth father who is from the USA but living in London.

The Perth Breakfast host told Radio Today that the support of the Hit Network across his time on 2DayFM, Hit104.7 and more recently, Hit92.9 has been a huge help.

“Last year Tanya, Matt and Kat were incredible on air. Great support and helped with the heavy lifting on the show when things got emotional,” he said.

“Xavier and Heidi have been great this year as well which is great.”

Ryan also thanked his Breakfast listeners for sharing their personal stories and listening to his own.

“This story is a lot more common than people think.

“Audiences get to know breakfast radio presenters pretty well. The fact they trust us with their personal stories is an honour and the real strength of local brekky radio.”

It’s an incredible story but Ryan also tells it incredibly well. He’s becoming one of radio’s best broadcasters.

Ryno who are you really?

Congratulations Ryan. A great example of personal content. For what it is worth, I wonder if some audio or vision of you being reunited with your Dad (although cliche) could have better told some of the story here though. What went to air, is often what interests me out of these social pieces? A scripted monologue to camera was well done, but i really would have liked to see the moment and studied you and your dads real expressions. All the pauses and stammers. As a fan of yours I am struggling to see what is clinically prepared and what is from the heart with you. I think that’s when you will be an infectious character to follow, not just another lovable one.
