Report: Is Ita Buttrose bound for top job at the ABC?
The search for a new chair of the ABC may be over, with speculation media icon Ita Buttrose has been tapped to take on the job according to multiple reports.
Communications minister Mitch Fifield is expected to submit her name to cabinet this week following a six-month search for Justin Milne’s replacement.
Milne left the public broadcaster following the controversial sacking of managing director Michelle Guthrie.
If Buttrose gets the gig, it may be a bit of a ‘captain’s pick’ from Fifield, with reports Buttrose was not on a short list of candidates compiled by global recruiters Korn Ferry.
Ita Buttrose set to be new ABC chair
1. Here we go again – someone not on the headhunter’s shortlist will get the gig. Why do we bother with the search charade?
2. Old enough to remember these things being confidential until Cabinet approved them. https://t.co/E6XTZIucCx

Ita Buttrose is an accomplished and successful journalist, editor, and businesswoman. People who are questioning her character should just get in the bin.
The only thing I have a problem with is the government *interfering* with the @ABCNetwork recruitment process

If approved by Cabinet, she’d become only the second woman to chair the ABC.
Meanwhile, Guthrie last year launched legal action against the national broadcaster for unfair dismissal.
Geez… so Ita’s experience in strategy and digital transformation is……???
Michelle, lucky you got out of there!
That internet thing… it’s gotta go.
