Red FM’s Alana & Robbie head to Newman in support of Movember

Staff Writer

Red FM’s Breakfast team recently embarked for Newman in North West WA for their ‘BHP Red for Movember Tour’.

Alana and Robbie broadcast their show from the Paranawarri Retail Centre in the small mining town and chatted with BHP mining employees who shared their Movember stories.

Some shared stories of the importance of staying healthy while working in the mines, while others spoke of losing family members and breaking the cycle of dying young.

“It’s amazing to come on a tour like this and spread the word about Movember and Men’s Health Awareness,” said Robbie.

“A significant part of our market are from the mining industry. The stats? around mining and depression speak for themselves, so if this broadcast helps men in the mining industry to open up and get help where they need it, then I’m extremely proud to be a part of it.”

“In smaller, regional communities – feeling connected is really a key factor in being proactive with regards to physical and mental health,” added Alana.

“Providing a platform for people in Newman to share their stories was very humbling to be a part of. Hopefully the show inspired others to continue an important conversation.”

Red FM content director Dan Cole said that the opportunity to head to Newman was too good to pass up.

“We always jump at the chance to get our on air teams out to the smaller towns like Newman and the fact that we can support such a great cause as Movember at the same time was a big bonus.

“With such a male-dominated audience in regional WA, men’s health issues are something we want to continue to support.”
