You can or deny that Christian O’Connell is working on Gold. Good result.

Aussie rules

Go back to the UK. Gold rates 8% in brekky just playing music so Christian is worth about 1 rating point thats it. Nothing to crow about. Its like giving credit to the breakfast shows on Smooth. Format driven thats it.

ARN have taken quite a hit this year. 97.3 has slumped to the middle of the pack, national drive is drowned out by two major players, even K&J were knocked from their perch this year. Interesting to hear the spin on that from Duncan.

To those that criticised the changes at 4BC to mostly network from Sydney. Where are you now?
Hadley now beats all but Triple M.

“I can’t believe ARN sacked Lehmo and Jo when they were a top rating breakfast show” then

“so what if Christian is rating well in breakfast? it’s a format driven result” now

Sorry guys, can’t have it both ways.

I hate to say this as Im not the biggest fan of the ABC.
But Triple J now is beating 2Dayfm and Triple M in Sydney. Awesome.
Shame you can’t monetise Triple J.

Brian, I’m no big fan of Hadley nor am I anywhere near 60.
A couple of years ago the morning shift on 4BC was rating 5’s and 6’s. It’s now 10.
So to say there’s no competition doesn’t make sense. Those listeners had to come from somewhere.
I’ve also noticed continual comments on this site belittling listeners over 60. They obviously are of less worth than us younger people. Talk about ageism.

Hey Michael the AM talk guys don’t really have any competition unlike the FM shows. The only competition in the 55+ AM demo is the ABC and that’s a very different beast.

The Hit Network failing in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. The only market working is Melbourne but FOX has been leader there for decades.

I’ll make one last comment. You’re right about Sydney and Melbourne. They don’t have much competition.
But 4BC was rating 5-6 in that slot. It’s now 10. So the talk guys on 4BC back then certainly had competition. It may well have been from other types of entertainment rather than other radio stations. If you don’t like Hadley fair enough, but to say that almost doubling the ratings in that slot is because there’s no competition ignores that achievement.
At least you didn’t make some comment about over 55’s not really counting.

Macquarie was smart. They changed 2UE to all sport thus removing talkback competition, forcing most 2UE listeners who don’t like sport to switch to 2GB. They want 2UE to have low ratings as this boosts 2GB.

On the AM:well done 4BC. Networking was a winner.Veteran music jock Craig Huggins delivering results in Adelaide deserves a mention. Macquarie sports radio? Why bother.
Ross and John are worth every cent they get at AW-terrific radio.

To be fair

We keep hearing about how K&J are the biggest show in the country. But K&J aren’t the highest share or even the hugest cume in the country. Never have been. Give Fox/3AW/2GB some credit for once.

I see the dreaded asterisks are appearing at 1278 Sport. Is the end of this farce nigh !

Check Brisbane ratings Ray Hadley is beating 973 and Hit 105 in MORNINGS. Who said networking doesn’t work ! Even up here in very parochial Queensland. ARN should blow up 97 breakfast and network breakfast.
