PodcastOne taps ARIA Awards founder Peter Rix for music industry legends series

Staff Writer

ARIA Music Awards founder and former Chairman Peter Rix celebrates this year’s awards by launching his own podcast series From The Inside.

Over 12 editions, he will look at some of the major executives who have shaped the industry through the years., and draw on anecdotes of their contributions.

These include INXS and Models manager Chris Murphy; John Watson who discovered Silverchair and now handles Cold Chisel and Midnight Oil; and promoters Michael Chugg and Michael Coppel.

The first episode, released last night, was a discussion about the origins of the ARIAs, its move into television and the stories of the awards from years gone by.

It featured former ARIA board director Phillip Mortlock and former long-time producer of the ARIA Awards, Mark Pope.

Rix said, “These podcasts came from a simple single idea! Invite a few old friends to reflect on their journeys through the Australian music business. The good, the bad and the ugly!

“It seems to have turned out pretty well. Compelling, honest, humorous, un-varnished reflections on the past, present and future of a business I have loved and lived in all my working life! And somehow, we still stayed friends!!”

From The Inside with Peter Rix is on SCA’s Podcast One and is at https://www.podcastone.com.au/From-the-inside the PodcastOne app and iTunes.

Rix started out in the ‘70s managing Marcia Hines, Jon English, Richard Clapton and Hush.

He founded the ARIA awards in 1986 and stayed involved with it for 14 years.

He is now the Executive Chairman of George P. Johnson Australia, continuing his work via one of the world’s leading event and experiential marketing agencies.
