Pippa & Jimi wrap up Hit93.5 Dubbo nickname postal plebicite

Former Assistant Editor

Today marked the end of Pippa and Jimi’s latest postal plebicite, with the Hit93.5 Breakfast duo this time asking the people to vote on whether Dubbo’s nickname should be changed.

Jimi’s question for the plebiscite was ‘Should the official nickname of Dubbo be changed from Dubvegas to Dub-Angeles?’ which he proposed back on January 22.

There was even an official postal form that listeners could download, and while Dave Hughes, Kevin Pieterson, local member Troy Grant and Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton all came on board in support of the change, the result was a resounding 98% no to the proposed change.

Dubbo Mayor Ben Shields also came on board as the official face of the ‘No’ Campaign.

“What hurts most about this was that only one in 50 people voted for change,” said Jimi. “I’m shocked because i’ve worked so hard… this is worse than the FA trying to win the soccer world cup for Australia.”

Pippa and Jimi then called Mayor Shields, who said he “certainly didn’t want [Jimi] to have to be a Hillary [Clinton], and run away and hide.”
