OMG!

Staff Writer

OMG is the new DAB+ brand that SCA has launched to replace Classic Rock Digital. The guy behind it is Dave Cameron, Head of National Content and Development. We asked Dave a couple of questions about OMG.

RT: Who’s the target?

Dave:  OMG is an eclectic Adult station that is best described for the reactions it creates to its music, rather than try and define the format. Hence the name.

RT: What’s the format about.. pure Surprise and delight?

Dave: There’s no certainty or borders around it’s format, except it shouldn’t sound like anything else on offer.

RT: So what type of music….

Dave:  It plays stuff you can’t remember the name of, or who sings it, but you have some random memory of hearing it.

OMG is a reaction station, it’s a bit like your kooky weird Uncle, a little odd, strangely compelling, but more often than not the life of the party.

So there you go. OMG is the replacement for SCA’s  much-loved Classic Rock Digital station. If you have a DAB+ receiver it will pop-up straight up – worth a listen. We guarantee it will play some stuff you haven’t heard in a while – pure train wreck scheduling.

Hi love the station, but there is so much more older music out there but the same stuff is played every day.
Please try and get some different music on board.
Cheers Kerri

Good station with good selection of music genres.

BUT PLEASE GET RID OF THAT UNFUNNY REPULSIVE VOICE OVER GUY.

Seriously it’s embarrassing and I’ve had to turn it off from all of my stores following to many adverse customers comments.

Old man naked on slippery dips, and naked vinal car seats in summer. It’s just wrong and squeamish……. it’s just not right when you have to explain to a child about naked old men speaking sexy. Seriously, come on guys.

At best it’s not even slightly funny.

There’s your free tip to a larger audience.

That guy should stick to channel 10 commercials.

I have just discovered OMG, and I love it!! I had my dial permanently on another station for years then I just started fiddling around and found this station! I listen to it all the time now. Yes, you’re right Dave, it plays heaps of stuff I haven’t heard in a long while but such a good playlist. I heard tonight that it’s going to change to MMM One(?) or something like that, but as long as the music stays the same! Anyway thanks Dave Cameron for a great station and fabulous music.

Bring back OMG!
I’m so used to its quirky idiosyncrasies, the playlist, the often weird verbal interludes…and even got my 12 yr old son hooked so that he’s singing classics and what happens??? You pull it down and make it FM in format and lose that DAB touch!
Leave OMG alone and bring it back…please!

Bring back OMG, what is with the MMM classic rock ? OMG was its own style. I agree to expand the playlist but don’t wreck a good thing, this change is not working. I used to have OMG on at work and we were enjoying the old stuff….. Not now.

You’ve lost me MMM. I listened to OMG to avoid your tedious Striney, bogan announcers and your constant ads. So you take OMG off air to make people listen to MMM again? Won’t happen. Listening elsewhere now.

Thought I’d accidently deleted OMG…
After searching & failing to find….I get onine to see what’s happened .
It’s pretty clear ….loud people who spend their life complaining about everything have given management the false impression that this station has failed .
The quite normal people just listen & enjoy.
Once again management has got it all wrong .
I was directed to it by a friend , told other friends who listened regularly.
Everything about it was good & amusing ….people complained about stupid adds …they were hilarious .
The voice over guy was unbeatable & stiched the whole entertaining quilt together. …
WHAT A LOSS…UNIQUE,FUN& GONE.
Killed by trolls

OMG another mistake. Hadn’t listened to a SCA station in years until OMG. Can’t understand why they ruin a good thing. Loved it, but if we wait six months I’m sure they’ll change them all around again! Back to Nova. Dean

Why did you close omg down??

Who is the instigator of this? Seriously it’s hectic.
It became the most popular station on our building sites basically overnight, and now you’ve replaced it with this new mmm.
If we want mmm , we already have that and its just not the same. You’ve kinda ruined it to be honest.

OMG! Not what I expected. My 10yo loved OMG and it was my regular station in the car. The only time it wasn’t on was when driving through the tunnels. Every afternoon after school pick up we would sing along to the crazy catchy music from the past. Both children were baffled by – “Hit me with your rhythm stick” but we all sang along! Now I spend the whole time flicking stations – our afternoons won’t be so memorable. OMG you’ve broken our hearts.

Hi all,

Have just seen all the passionate comments here about OMG – thank you!
So I will take the opportunity to respond.

OMG has been re-branded into an extension of one of our premium radio brands, Triple M. We now have 4 versions of Triple M broadcasting on digital. Triple M FM simulcast on digital, Triple M Classic Rock, Triple M Greatest Hits, and Triple M Modern.
Several of these stations, namely Greatest Hits and Classic Rock, have a significant cross-over of what OMG was playing.
You can hear these new stations on a DAB+ receiver in most markets, depending upon cities as we don’t have exactly the identical offering in every city.
Or you can listen to all of them anywhere anytime on Radioapp.

Being a commercial broadcaster, our opportunity is to not only build great formats to listen to, but ones that we can also monetize so we can continue to provide as many diverse entertainment offerings on as many platforms for our listeners as possible. Having a suite of Triple M branded digital stations makes this easier for us to market and monetize, and in turn create even more fans of the Triple M brand through our new music formats.

Hope this clears things up. There’s always a reason why around change, and we appreciate so many passionate OMG fans. Hopefully you’ve been able to have a listen to and enjoy our brand new suite of Triple M stations each with their own diverse format, not that disimilar to what OMG was playing.

Dave

In response to Dave Cameron’s (Head of National Content and Development) comments:

Monetize the MMM channels all you want and give us the option of staying loyal listeners to OMG!

When a programmer gets it so right, why mess with it?

I live in hope that yo will resurrect OMG! Dave 🙂

Please!

MMM you have lost your way AGAIN – back for 4KQ for us then

Jo

Seriously – OMG was the best. MMM is NOT the same. Appreciate that you need to make money but why can’t you just make money with the station how it was?! MMM is not a station I have ever identified with and I don’t like regular style radio with lame DJs and ads every 3 songs. I will not consistently listen to either replacement option – back to regular channel surfing after an entire year solidly on OMG. Congrats guys – you broke it.

Really missing OMG. Everyone of my friends got hooked after 1 listen. I don’t enjoy classic rock digital. It’s not off beat enough. I want to be surprised by the NEXT song.

Dave, ive read your reasoning but i do not agree with your answer, i have been listening to OMG since it began, i recommended to many friends n family members who also started listening, we have all since tried your new replacement stations and none of us now listen, the content on either station does not match OMGs song list and to be honest, i see very little difference between your stations now, it appears from your statement that its all about the money and i get that, i just hope some other station or network will see what you have turned your back on and runs with it, you had a great idea and got people changing in droves, now they are leaving in droves, good luck with your changes but im afraid they are not for me…

I found Omg and told my husband. We thought they had stolen our record collection, and I mean records (vinyl). It became our new station and we are sad to see it go. We will keep a lookout for another station as good as it was. Don’t hold out much hope.

It’s such a shame the world revolves around profit. I found OMG about 12 months ago and put it on when ever im not watching tv. That voice over guy brilliant those little strange quips he said brilliant. The music brilliant. But triple M doesn’t cut the mustard guys and now i hardly listen to any channel. Bring back OMG. Its different and that’s what we are after. Listen to the public and you will make your money. Cheers.

I never listened to OMG, but I’ve gone off all the SCA DAB channels (either via a radio or the apps) – they’ve obviously gone for monetisation across ALL of the channels like Easy, Old Skool, etc and their music universes aren’t as broad as some.

I tend to listen to 181.fm stations in their many flavours, plus XS90’s 🙂
