Ben Erbsland scores Nova late night shift

Staff Writer

Following the recently reported news that Simon Baggs is leaving Nova, the network has today confirmed a replacement.

Starting 1 May, Ben Erbsland will relocate from Nova 100 Melbourne to host Late Nights across the Nova Network. Based in Sydney, he will also cover a weekend shift.

Erbsland is currently a weekend announcer for Nova 100 and also works with the programming team in an operations role.

Erbsland told Radio Today, “This is a massive opportunity, and I can’t thank everyone enough in the Nova Network for all of their support, it’s honestly been amazing. I can’t wait to start the new role!”

Ben got his start in radio by volunteering his time with the breakfast radio show at Fresh 92.7FM Adelaide.

In 2010 he scored the first ever scholarship offered to the Australian Radio School in Adelaide, and after completing his course, picked up a regular gig as night’s announcer at SCA-owned Hit107.

Erbsland then came to the attention of management at Nova 91.9 in Adelaide, fronting a Sunday evening development show and joining the team as a casual jock.

In 2011, he moved to Hot FM in Mackay and then to Star FM in Albury in 2012 co-hosting their breakfast shows.

Two years later, Erbsland joined KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne as a workday announcer before moving to Nova 100 in 2015 – initially as a casual announcer – before moving to weekends.

Nova 96.9 PD Sarah McGilvray said, “Ben is an exceptional talent, and we are thrilled he has accepted the network Late Nights and Weekend Announcer role.

“Ben started with Nova 100 as a casual announcer last year and very quickly became a much-loved member of the Nova family. His skills on and off the air, combined with his passion for radio, made this a very easy decision for us, and we are proud to be able to promote from within and recognise Ben’s hard work.”

What a gun. As someone who has had the pleasure of working with Benny in Nova 100 Programming, this appointment is bittersweet.

I’m incredibly sad to see Benny leave the Melbourne team – where he’s been an absolutely incredible asset….but I’m stoked to see him moving to Sydney to be heard across the network.

He’s one of radio’s greatest gentlemen and will be missed in Richmond.

Congrats

Heard nothing but excellent things about Ben. Sounds good too. But where is the next great jock and why aren’t they being given a shot in a slot like this? The next Smallzy, Angus OL, Ash London etc this is the slot to be training them

Fair call and agreed Ben is great. Just making the point he’s done some big shifts, knows the game etc. what about a young gun in the regional places literally getting his/her big break
