No joy at JOY 94.9 FM

Trouble is brewing at Melbourne’s gay and lesbian community radio station JOY 94.9 FM with allegations of bullying and growing tension behind the scenes.

A petition has been doing the rounds calling for a spill of the board at a Special General Meeting and the appointment of an interim board to run the station.

Those behind the push have listed their grievances against the current board including a lack of action, an exodus of on-air staff and volunteers and a disconnect with the LGBTI communities.

JOY FM founder John Oliver and other life members are among those, who’ve added their name to the petition which needs 100 signatures to bring on a spill.

Radio Today has reached out to JOY 94.9’s CEO for comment.
