Australia’s first 24-hour Digital Only Sports Radio Network

Staff Writer

The EON name returns to Melbourne this week.  The name is being revived as the EON Sports Radio digital network launches Thursday and one of the guys behind it is the same one who launched EON FM – Glenn Wheatley.

EON Sports Radio has a deal with the UK’s TalkSport as the only Australian radio broadcaster of live English Premier League matches. Talksport itself was in the news last week after being taken over by News Corporation for £220 million.

As Australia’s first 24-hour digital only sports radio, EON Sports Radio is hoping to gain some ground off the back of the now 3.5 million people who use digital radio in metro markets.

The joint venture between Glenn Wheatley and John Wall of Aquire Learning,  as the sole backers of EON Sports Radio; have also secured deals to broadcast A-League matches including the Socceroos, National Basketball League games and English FA Cup Games.

Glenn Wheatley’s  EON Broadcasting also owns 92.7 MIX FM and 91.9 SEA FM on the Sunshine Coast.
