River 94.9 Turns 25

Staff Writer

Today, the 25th February 2015, marks 25 years since QFM first went to air on 106.9 based in Ipswich. During those 25 years, QFM became Star FM and then eventually River 94.9.

There is a long list of names who have been through the doors at Raymonds Hill.  Take your pick from Ashleigh Mac, The Fatboys, Wayne Roberts, Walter Williams, Alan Roebuck, even one Guy Dobson (pic below), just to name a few.

All day River 94.9 has been celebrating the last 25 years with special guests in the studio and Guy shares one on being rostered on to mow the stations lawns – guess how that went down?

You’ll even hear some classic Fatboys and Waynee Poo.

The station has also seen a few different formats ranging from Classic Hits to pure CHR. We won't mention the move to Brisbane's Southbank. It's also seen a couple of owners as well. Today River 94.9 is part of Grant Broadcasters.

The last license for Ispwich was for 4IP and from 1976 to 1990 Ipswich didn’t have a local radio station. River 94.9's coverage area includes the massive South East corridor, with it's signal bouncing down to the Gold Coast, through Logan and out west to the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba.

Below is a classic TVC from the Star 106.9 days, positioning it as Toowoomba's newest station.
