1 Breakfast show, 7 formats

Back in May we told you about Project Banana out of the UK. Using RCS GSelector backboned by their automation system Zetta and some custom “plug-in’s”, as we will call them to keep it simple on the tech front; It allows listeners to choose between different playlists while the breakfast show runs as normal with the content in between.

The smarts behind it, has landed Absolute Radio and RCS  a TechCon Technical Excellence Award yesterday at the UK Radio Festival. And there’s a video that shows you how it all comes together, it's clever stuff.

Here is how it basically works; listeners to Absolute Radio Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show get to hear his normal breaks, features, comps and news etc but they can hear different songs.

Choose Absolute Radio 60's get some Beatles, Stones and Motown; hit up  Absolute Radio 70's hear classics including Bowie, Queen and ABBA. Choose the 90s incarnation and that is what you get, or choose everything from The Beatles to Arctic Monkeys on the main Absolute Radio station. 

But they all synchronise with each other.

The guy who came up with the Idea to start with?

Project Banana was dreamt up by exiting Southern Cross Austereo's Director of Digital and Innovation, Clive Dickens. He headed up Absolute Radio before coming to Australia.
