New alternative Aussie radio station Vibe Machine launches

Former Assistant Editor

Australia’s latest national alternative digital station is Vibe Machine.

The station, which launches today, has been created with the view to recognising the value in supporting local artists and for more voices on the airwaves.

Vibe Machine will focus on exciting new music, to be played alongside tunes from the music world’s rich history.

Founder and GM Josh Kiff says that listeners could hear a “new track from Camp Cope“, alongside Nirvana or even a band like Luca Brasi.

Speaking with Radio Today Kiff explains “I’ve never been one to just follow the most trodden path, it would be easy to say ‘You can’t change the systems in place, you can’t create something different and build it’ and that’s what stops a lot of people I believe.

“If you want to make an impact you have to put yourself out there and try things that are a bit scary and against the grain and for all us at Vibe Machine, being able to give artists more support is where our passion lies and this is a unique opportunity to do just that.

“And with the creation of the podcast and the ability to reach more people through new technologies, its a really exciting time to do something like a dedicated alternative radio station.”

Vibe Machine launches with a stack of experienced hosts.

“While we may not have celebrity hosts of some national networks, the team we do have is both passionate and knowledgeable about a broad range of music,” says Kiff.

The hosts include:

  • Kailei Ginman – has made headlines with Alpha Booking Agency, the new all-female artist agency in Australia.
  • Bronwyn Thompson – is one of Australia’s most respected journalists, having worked at Rolling Stone, Juice, Sydney Morning Herald. Her first series of shows will shine a spotlight on iconic record labels and the stable of artists they’ve produced.
  • Stephen Tilbury – podcaster and host extraordinaire, is the complete package – he has the skills, the voice and the passion to make every show a standout.
  •  Josh Kiff – no stranger to the music industry. He’s promoted tours, written for street press for a decade, acted as a medium-sized venue booking agent and was part of the team that grew moshtix to become one of the leaders in the ticketing field. His key show at launch is Connect The Rock, which plays six-degrees-of-separation with artists and will feature special guests.

You can tune in to Vibe Machine online or by searching for “Vibe Machine Radio” on the app stores.
