Meshel Laurie calls out KIIS101.1 for using her likeness in radio stunt
Former KIIS 101.1 breakfast host Meshel Laurie has taken to social media to call out the station and Drive hosts Will and Woody for using her likeness in a stunt.
The station’s new Drive team dropped by new Breakfast duo Jase and PJ this morning, bringing along with them t-shirts and mugs with Matt and Meshel KIIS branding on them.
“We never had t shirts or mugs, or any merch at all, so they’ve made these especially for a fake stunt,” said Laurie on Instagram, uploading a photo of the merchandise.
“Sad. Please don’t use my name and face for cheesy radio stunts guys.”
Laurie and fellow former breakfast host Matt Tilley were replaced by Kiwi imports Jase and PJ for breakfast on Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1 in 2018, with the latter making their debut this morning.
The image of Jase, PJ, Will and Woody was originally uploaded by the official KIIS 101.1 Instagram, with the caption “classic stitch up.”
“I’m sure the ‘stitch up’ has been on a whiteboard for months,” Laurie went on to comment.
Public comments on the original uploaded were scathing, with listeners calling the stunt “disrespectful,” “poor form,” “workplace bullying” and more.
Despite Will and Woody’s ill-received stunt, Jase and PJ got off to a reasonable start this morning on their Melbourne debut.
They also called on listeners to give them a fair go at the new role, and to go easy with the negative feedback on social media.
Within an hour of the show, Jase Harding went to great pains to point out that he and Harvey had nothing to do with the sacking of Matt and Meshel from the Breakfast slot.

Seriously Meshel, move on. Jase had only nice things to say about you on air this morning.
Meshel, time to focus on the next chapter.
Kiss Lover or should that be Kiss Employee? Think about how you’d feel if your former employer gave you the arse and then printed your face on a t shirt as the butt of a joke? Apart from the fact ARN has no legal right to use those images anymore as Matt and Meshel’s contract has expired, this is pretty tasteless and shows how low these shows will go to get some stale oxygen.

Are you Meshel’s neighbour in Altona or something? No I’m not an ARN employee – in fact, rival network.
The legalities of using their name and photo is fine – they didn’t mass produce nor are they giving away or selling the merchandise. Otherwise what you’ll find is as soon as any talent’s contract ends, the network would have to remove every little piece of image/audio/podcast/video off their network. No network does that.
If anything, Meshel could see it as flattery – maybe J&PJ have big shoes to fill and WW were reminding them…

You’re pretty all over a show for someone from a rival Network. I call BS!
If you work at a professional network I’d say you wouldn’t see or hear anything from a previous show around the building or hear it. Are there any matt and Meshel billboards around or posters in reception? Are they still using their audio on air? Does the show Facebook page even still exist? The answer to all is NO! So yes a professional network would do all that. 2dayFM we’re pulling down the Kyle and Jackie O posters after their last show before K&J even hit the carpark.

If Hamish and Andy did this to the 2DAY breakfast team immediately following Kyle & Jackie O’s departure you’d all think it’s hilarious.
All in good fun guys, I don’t think it’s that offensive tbh. I do think it feels a little try-hard; if Will & Woody were a bit more of an established team it might hit a bit closer to the mark.
Really Westie no one really cares about Meshel Laurie, Jase and PJ’s show this morning was twice as entertaining as M&M ever were, no offence to Matt Tilley loved him on Matt and Jo but let’s face it, the new KIIS 1011 is looking pretty good about from losing Hughesy and Kate to Fox 1019.
Is someone being a bit precious? I thought it was funny.

I don’t do anything in disguise, unlike every expert who comments on this blog. Maybe if any of you had the guts to put your name and reputation to something you’d understand how gutting it is to have it bastardised by a similarly nameless exec.
