A gorgeous sunrise provided the perfect backdrop for a River 94.9 listener wedding this morning.

Following the success of their “UHF Wedding” in 2015, River 94.9 FM embarked on another wedding challenge in mid-April, asking listeners to share their relationship stories via the station website.

Dubbed “Married at First Light”, the contest looked to find a couple that had been together for a long time and were yet to ‘tie the knot’ for one reason or another.

Sam Bestmann and Ian Spierenburg were named the winners out of the hundreds of entries, earning themselves an all-expenses paid ceremony that occurred this morning at the picturesque Branell Homestead in Laidley.

The Southeast Queensland couple met in high school in 2000, yet found themselves continuing to delay their nuptials because “life just kept getting in the way”.

“This is something that we have wanted to do for years,” they said. “We’re so happy that River 94.9 finally made this happen for us.”

“Every day, in every way – we try to give back to our listeners and to our community,” River 94.9 general manager Shane O’Brien added. “When the opportunity came up to give away a wedding with all the trimmings to a family in our listening audience – we jumped at it.”

River 94.9’s Campo and Michelle were there broadcasting their show live from the ceremony, while footage from the special day was also streamed live on Facebook so that listeners could be part of the action.
