KIIS FM spruiking Will and Woody in new on-air promo

Staff Writer

Australian Radio Network is readying for a ratings battle in 2018 on both its KIIS and Pure Gold networks. It’s all part of a “new strategic direction that has been in the planning for 12 months”, according to national CD, Duncan Campbell.

Among the well-reported changes is the competitive Drive shift on the KIIS Network. Will and Woody begin January 8 as Hughesy and Kate move across the dial to Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit Network. Hughes and Langbroek were #1 FM in Sydney in survey seven.

ARN has wasted no time in grooming listeners for the new 4pm to 6pm Drive show. A promo has begun to air on KIIS 106.5 that features fans of the pair describing Will and Woody as the “life of the party”.

“In 2018, get a fresh way to drive home,” leads the voiceover. “Introducing you to Will and Woody.”

On the recent announcement of Will and Woody for Drive and Jase and PJ for KIIS 101.1 Melbourne Breakfast, Campbell positioned the signings as a “coup” for ARN, suggesting that other networks had also courted both shows.

He added: “These changes not only enhance our national offering but also reinvents our approach for KIIS 101.1, marking a significant, bold step forward for Melbourne and the network overall.”

Where’s the audio of Wil and Woody ( who didn’t rate in Perth ) sounds like the new 3pm pick up.

Yeah, as a perth native I must say I can see a weekend breakky gig within the year for these guys. Against KTM this will be impossible considering their Perth breakky sound/ratings.

That’s a bit harsh. The show sounded better than the ratings suggest and they were up against some pretty stiff competition with shows that had been around for a very long time. I think they’ll sound better without Heidi too.

Didn’t really cut it over here in WA. Maybe the eastern states will like them more. And they were local here. National drive is a big ask against Hughesy, Marty, Kate, Mick Molloy and all the big names. How do they expect to compete with that?

I think KIIS need a little help with their promos, these and the current ones on 101.1 aren’t quite right in my opinion.

No matter how you look at it, this is a fascinating story.

96fm have been running promos for a few weeks already, and even for the new breakfast show – exact same concept, but built for their rock format. Sounds really fun and something exciting for the Perth market, finally. The promos sound better than their old shows sound on 92.9 (both shows are ex 92.9 but you wouldn’t know if you couldn’t remember)… sounds like 96fm have it well worked out and how it will sound as the boys, and Lisa and Paul arrive. Can’t wait

Poor Wil and Woody I say. Being thrown in the lions den but good luck to them. If Hughesy and Kate hadn’t walked on ARN I’m guessing W&W would have been the new night show replacing Thinkergirls.

Why would you promote a show of no names which isn’t on for 6 weeks. Next year !

I predict Will & Woody will only last for a few months then ARN will snag Hamish & Andy for the drive
