Kate Langbroek’s attacker jailed

Staff Writer

A homeless man has been jailed for 14-months after a terrifying incident involving the Hit Network‘s Kate Langbroek at her Melbourne home back in March.

37-year-old Sebata Defa was drug affected and armed with a kebab skewer when he repeatedly tried to kick in the door of her home in St Kilda.

Langbroek was with her babysitter and her three children in what she described as a “crazed, violent, terrifying attack” that left her with a bruised arm.

In handing down the sentence yesterday, Melbourne Magistrate Fiona Hayes told Defa he was ‘completely and utterly out of control’ and their feeling of safety in their own home had been ‘substantially affected’.

She told him that for the kids ‘that was a really big thing that will take them a long time to feel safe again’.

With time already served, Defa will be eligible for parole in less than four months.
