K rock football back for 86th consecutive season

Radio networks around the country are pulling on the footy boots for the start of the 2018 AFL season.

For Geelong’s K rock 95.5FM, it’s a landmark season. A Geelong ‘institution’ since 1932, it has broadcast the AFL and VFL for 86 consecutive seasons.

That’s literally thousands of games in what’s believed to be the longest sporting coverage of its kind in the world.

The team of Tom King, Darren ‘Chuck’ Berry, Ian ‘Coza’ Cohen and Ben Casanelia will call an average of 3 games each week.

Special match-day comments are provided by Cats’ premiership star Paul Chapman, Pies’ premiership player Leigh Brown, the Roos’ Shaun Higgins, Bombers Assistant coach Mark Neeld and Cats legend Tim ‘Bluey’ McGrath.

Locals love their Geelong Cats with an absolute and unswerving passion and K rock General Manager Andy Mathers believes K rock Football helps them live and breathe every moment.

“When calling Mighty Cats games K rock Footy is unashamedly parochial; however we continue to deliver a great local call for all footy fans with 77 matches per year.

After 86 years, we hope we know footy and what our local audience wants; a quality call, expert opinions, fun and the ability for our audience to be a part of a great call team.”

K rock Football is provincial Australia’s most awarded radio sports coverage: Winner 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 & 2016 Australian Commercial Radio Award for Best Sports Event Coverage.
