James Mathison reveals what it’s like to go from media to politics on #YGSS

Staff Writer

This week on You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere (#YGSS) Rachel Corbett chats to TV host and political agitator, James Mathison.

James got his foot in the media door via the reality show, The $20 Challenge and then became the first winner, along with Yumi Stynes, of the Channel V presenter search in the early 2000’s. After scoring the Channel V job he went from working in a call centre by day and petrol station by night to interviewing the biggest bands and celebrities in the world.

In this episode James talks about the perils of fame, what it was like hosting one of Australia’s most successful TV shows, why early success can give you a warped sense of reality and what it’s like to go from media to politics.

You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere is a podcast that goes behind the scenes of show business to prove there’s no such thing as an overnight success. Each week Rachel chats with well-known media personalities about how they got into the business, how they’ve managed to stay there and what it takes to build a successful career.
