Hot Tomato announces replacement for retiring News Director

Staff Writer

There’s a changing of the guard within the newsroom at Hot Tomato, with Matt McDonald announced as Tony Bartlett‘s replacement as he prepares for retirement.

The former senior producer at Sky News Australia will join the Gold Coast’s number one radio station in late November to lead and direct our news efforts into 2018 and beyond.

Matt has also previously held positions as News Director at 2UE, and a stint as Federal Political Reporter based in Canberra. He is no stranger to FM radio either, having also worked as Senior News Editor and News Reader at 2DayFM/Triple M Sydney, as well as Nova and Vega.

I’m thrilled to be returning to radio with such a professional and passionate team as Hot Tomato,” Matt said.

“2018 is going to be an exciting year for the Gold Coast and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

According to CEO Graham Miles, Matt will arrive at a busy time for the station as they ready themselves for the 2018 Commonwealth Games coverage and all that goes with it.

“We are delighted to welcome Matt to the station, he comes highly recommended and has demonstrated his ability to adapt to the issues and challenges of the future,” he added.

“We look forward to him applying his expertise to take our local and national news coverage to a new level.”
