Hot 91.1 breakfast host swaps mic for mum duties in week-long experiment

Hot 91.1 breakfast host Ash Gierke is about to embark on the ultimate social experiment when she trades lives with listener and mother of two Fiona for a week.

The idea was sparked after Ash, who isn’t yet a parent herself, recently made a number of comments on-air about parenting. She’ll now get to experience the life of a Sunshine Coast mother firsthand as she plays ‘Radio Mum’ to active 8 and 10 year old boys, juggling Fiona’s duties at home and as an active participant in her kids school and sporting activities.

Fiona on the other hand is simply looking forward to a week off – but she might be in for more than she thought.

“It was a pretty crazy morning,” Fiona said in a Facebook live video post-show. “I was up at 3.30am, with all of four or five hours sleep, which most mums will know what that feels like anyway.”

Fuelled by a caffeine dose from her co-hosts Dave Matthews and Sam Coward – a step up from her regular half-strength coffee – ‘Mama Fi’ covered a host of topics from random hair stories to breast screening in her first morning on-air.
