Hit92.9 unveils Pink Taxi women’s safety initiative

Staff Writer

Perth’s Hit92.9 has announced Pink Taxis WA – a new women’s safety initiative.

The new fleet of female driven on-demand taxis are a collaboration with Comfort Delgro, launched to provide an alternative option for getting home after a night out for women or men.

The Pink Taxis will debut this Friday and Saturday in Northbridge, WA – offering free rides home between 9pm and 2am.

The initiative was born out of an incident that Heidi Anderson had on a night out last year, and she’s been working with Comfort Delgro for the past six months on the Pink Taxis.

Hit92.9 and Heidi have brought forward the launch date in light of the recent tragedy in Melbourne and subsequent national response to female safety.

“ComfortDelGro contacted me and asked to have a discussion and collaborate on ways to make women feel safer travelling alone,” said Heidi.

“After some serious brain storming, we came up with this idea of taxis operated by female only drivers.

“At the end of the day, it’s a shame that we need this at all but that is the current reality.

“It’s good now women, and men, will have an option to make them feel more comfortable travelling home at night.”
