Bring Back GM’s

Why a good GM makes a real difference to people and the bottom line……

Gender-wage inequality sucks.  Yep, I’ve used the highly intellectual word of “sucks”, merely because the concept of a gender wage gap in Australia, in 2016, is to me simply archaic! (See? I can use big words when I want to).

The Ninja Notes: Finding your Querenci

I recently went to a martial arts fight night in Muay Thai. There is a beautiful dance the fighters do, to show each other respect, and to their teachers, trainers and their opponent. It is called the wai kru. In this art, I think the women are the best fighters – always strong fighters with great technique, and in one recent bout I witnessed the art of the pause.

This New Year, don’t set goals.

It’s interesting that at the start of the New Year we seem to become obsessed with setting new goals for our teams and ourselves. Psychologically the start of the New Year seems to signal a new beginning; the turning of the page and commencement of a new chapter. Fresh from some much needed rest and relaxation over the holidays, we are now fixated on making this year one to remember. The first step intuitively seems to be goal setting. What is it that our team wants to achieve this year? But here’s an idea, why don’t we avoid that magnetic pull that so badly wants to set goals? This year let’s not set goals. Often setting goals works against us achieving success.

Was 2015 a success for you?... let's look back

With the end of the year approaching its always good to look back at your success’s for the year…

Radio Lessons From The Real World - #10 The Chair

In the late 1980s a Southern US university conducted a fascinating psychology study where they organised undergrad students in a number of identical rooms over a six-week period. In each of the rooms 8 students were sat along a row of desks in a ‘U’ shape formation, the groups were mixed races and genders for measurement purposes they were connected to heart rate and brain activity monitoring equipment. They were politely told the test would begin shortly but this was a Psychology study, so of course, the test was already underway.

The Future of Digital Media is "E" shaped people

With the explosion of digital platforms, the challenge is to find a new mindset and skill set for digital content pioneers.

Our research and testing has shown that a new breed of digital individual is evolving.

The ‘E’ shaped digital content person.

Job hunting tips from the experts

It often seems as though there are fewer radio roles available each year as the industry finds more ways to multi-task, identifies more synergies between across stations, or as networking becomes more entrenched than ever.

Whether those statements are completely or partially correct, or perhaps perception, ultimately if you’re looking for a new role, or for your first role in radio, you have two choices:

Creating a Culture of Compassion in Your Company

Last year I found myself in an unexpected situation. On a routine trip to Sydney for work, I stopped in to Royal North Shore Hospital to visit my mum who was having some blood tests to determine the cause of a sudden onset of complications that we presumed were related to a grueling six month course of chemotherapy. We were hoping the blood tests would reveal the cause of this pain and dizziness and allow doctors to prescribe a new treatment. Instead, they returned with some results that none of us were expecting. Mum's cancer had returned for the last time. They gave her three weeks to live.

Rejection Therapy…

hit 104.1 2dayfm Jules Lund and Vlogger & former Star FM Shepparton brekky host Tommy Jacket have put together a vlog covering being rejected, which anyone trying to succeed in radio can relate too.

"The fear of someone saying "NO" is enough to stop people from living the life of their dreams or just playing it safe".
