Gold Coast Survey #1: Hot Tomato dethroned, Sea FM wins big as race to the top tightens

Former Features Editor

Athletes aren’t the only ones competing on the Gold Coast the moment, with the race between local stations Hot Tomato, Gold FM and hit90.9 Sea FM heating up.

There are just 2.1 points separating the top three stations, with hit90.9 Sea FM edging out Hot Tomato to claim victory in the first survey of the year on 13.3%. The win for the Hit network comes despite a -1.1 decline compared to the last survey, with Hot Tomato’s -4.8 loss having the biggest impact overall.

The news was especially bad for Hot Tomato in the Breakfast segment, with Flan & Emily Jade with Christo down -5.2 points to 12.6%. This left the door open for hit90.9’s Heather, Dan & Ben to become the #1 FM Breakfast show on the Gold Coast, rising from 12.9% to 13.6%.

Gold FM claimed the biggest gain in the Drive timeslot (up 1.8 points), but it wasn’t enough to hand Luke, Libby & Dobbo victory. That honour once again went to the Hit Network, with the new Hughesy & Kate lineup retaining much of the audience of previous segment kings Hamish & Andy.

A decline that large sounds like an anomaly. I’ve been on the Gold Coast for the last few weeks and Hot Tomato are doing a great job.

Haha , I doubt its an “anomaly” The margin of error in survey methodology doesn’t quite extend that far ! Its a programming error pure and simple

Hot Tomato is an awesome station…..with drops as big as this from one survey to the next, I would be questioning the methodology.

Surely GFK have some explaining to do here. Hot Tomato is the standout performer of the GC and has a solid product.
