Former ABC host released from prison

Staff Writer

It has been revealed today that former ABC Breakfast presenter in Hobart, Andy Muirhead (right), was given an early release from prison in late January.

Muirhead pleased guilty in the Tasmanian Supreme Court to posession of, and accessing, child exploitation material after being discovered with thousands of child pornography images on his computer.

He was sentenced to a total of seven months in prison in October, however has been given early release.

Muirhead had said that the stress of working both on the ABC Collectors program, and as an ABC breakfast radio presenter had driven him to look at child pornography to relax.

He will be listed on the Tasmanian sex offender register until 2018.
