Radio Awards Committee Chairman, Jana Rangooni, also announced former NZ broadcaster Jack Klutz as the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Radio award for 2017.
The Awards committee took the unanimous and unprecedented decision to select Klutz to receive the prestigious award.
“This winner has been a true champion of radio for many years and is loved by people on all sides of the industry,” said Rangooni.
“We asked Simon Barnett to present the award last week in Christchurch although fog meant the actual award Simon was due to present was still circling the city and eventually returned to Auckland rather than arriving in Christchurch.”
