Em Rusciano: “Everyone go to Kyle & Jackie O, I don’t care”
This morning 2Day FM’s Em Rusciano aired a pre-recorded interview with Boy George to promote the Nine Network’s upcoming return of The Voice franchise, in which George is a coach on season six.
But Nine isn’t happy about it, Rusciano said on today’s show. “After the interview, we got told, ‘you can’t play it until the first week of April’.”
Rusciano, it seems, has zero interest in television’s “stupid rules of publicity” and won’t succumb to special requests or outsider threats.
She even took aim at the TV network after the show’s publicist feared getting fired if the segment aired ahead of schedule. “If Channel Nine fire you over me going rogue now, I’ll hire you.”
Rusciano also boldly announced that she doesn’t care if co-host Harley Breen and herself never interview another celebrity, “ever again”.
“Everyone go to Kyle and Jackie O; I don’t care. All the celebrities, go to them because that’s not what our show is.”
On-air this morning, Rusciano added, “We’re doing this, and we’re not supposed to, and there’s going to be emails and phone calls, and Nine are going to ban us and whatever.”
But was this just a blatant tactic from Team Rusciano to get one up on the competition?
Radio Today understands that an exclusive with Kyle & Jackie O had already been hyped to air this Friday on the KIIS 106.5 breakfast show.
Bruno Bouchet, EP for the #1 Sydney FM breaky show, has since confirmed this is indeed the case. “Boy George has been confirmed for several weeks now and will be exclusively co-hosting in studio with Kyle and Jackie O for an hour.
“Everyone knows the best place to hear celebrity interviews is the Kyle & Jackie O Show on KIIS 1065,” he told Radio Today.
“And after Charlie Sheen today, coming up we have Jennifer Lopez, Kris Jenner, Blac Chyna, Miranda Kerr, Lara Worthington, Seal, Kelly Rowland, Sofia Vergara, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Schumer, The Rock and Mike Tyson, to name a few.
“No one has better access or relationships with the stars,” Bouchet said.
