Christian O’Connell unveils new Melbourne anthem

UPDATE: Christian O’Connell’s new Melbourne anthem Sing It For Melbourne has already reached #1 on the iTunes rock chart.

ORIGINAL STORY: One of Melbourne’s newest residents, Christian O’Connell was inspired by the city losing its title of World’s Most Liveable City to Vienna.

Christian felt an injustice had been done, and upon discovering that Vienna had its own 80s rock song by Ultravox, decided to commission his sidekick Jack to write a new anthem for Melbourne.

Now the song, titled ‘Sing It For Melbourne’, has been unveiled live on Gold104.3, and Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp gave it the tick of approval, calling it “epic”.

It features vocals from a Melbourne school choir at Vocal Arts Studios, as well as help from local singer Michael Mills and sports commentator Hamish McLachlan.

It is now available to purchase from iTunes and Spotify, with all proceeds doing to the Starlight Foundation.
