ARN & AFTRS partner to launch new internship program

Staff Writer

Top-performing students at AFTRS will be given the opportunity to gain hands-on radio experience through a new internship program launched by ARN and Sydney’s KIIS 106.5.

Working alongside some of the best in the industry, students will experience radio practice in a real world context, covering key areas such as producing, digital content and panelling.

“It is a great opportunity for our students to learn and experience first-hand the fast pace of metro radio from some of the best in industry,” said AFTRS head of radio Fyona Smith.

The program aims to prepare students for paid roles within an industry context, an important investment that ensures the next generation of radio content makers are learning from experienced and established radio personnel.

With many AFTRS alum currently working at KIIS 106.5, partnering with AFTRS to develop the program was an obvious choice for KIIS head of content Sydney and Melbourne Derek Bargwanna.

“We already have some great AFTRS graduates working at KIIS so it was a no-brainer to partner with AFTRS on this internship program, they produce some of the most passionate and skilled students I have ever seen.”

Great work from ARN, as a teacher and lecturer for the commercial radio industry with AFTRS, RTI & AIM this is a very positive move for the next generation of radio heads.
