Ed Sheeran owns this week’s ARIA singles chart

Staff Writer

Ed Sheeran will be pretty pleased with himself this week, holding on to the #1 position on the ARIA singles chart with his smash hit ‘Shape Of You’.

In doing so, he’s managed to fend off a spirited challenge from himself and his new track ‘How Would You Feel (Paean)’, which premieres at #2, knocking himself out of the #2 spot with ‘Castle On The Hill’, which settles at #3.

Yes, that’s right. Ed Sheeran occupies the top three places on the ARIA singles chart this week. That said, there are no changes to any of his certifications.

One track that does enjoy a certification tweak this week is the ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ duet from Zayn and Taylor Swift, ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’. It’s dropped from #3 to #4 on account of Ed’s debut at #2, but picks up a new second platinum certification this week, meaning it’s now sold through more than 140,000 copies downunder.

Julia Michaels continues to kick goals with her breakout smash ‘Issues’. It’s up again this week (two places to a new peak of #5) and earns itself a shiny new gold certification for sales of more than 35,000 copies.

The new Katy Perry single ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ slips two spots from last week’s #4 debut and the Chainsmokers’ track ‘Paris’ is also down two (albeit with a new Platinum accreditation – 70,000 copies).

Spookily, mirroring its debut in the UK this week, the new Kygo/Selena Gomez collaboration ‘It Ain’t Me’ premieres at a very respectable #9, giving the US starlet her highest Aussie chart position so far.

Jon Bellion’s ‘All Time Low’ reaches an all time high, improving from #16 to #12, while Clean Bandit’s ‘Rockabye’ eases five places to #14.

Alessia Cara’s single ‘How Far I’ll Go’ (from the ‘Moana’ soundtrack) dips just one position (#18 to #19), but picks up a new gold certification this week. Mura Masa and A$AP Rocky also pick up a new certification; platinum for ‘Love$ick’, which is down three to #20.

The accreditations keep coming thanks to the title track from The Weeknd’s album ‘Starboy’, which hits a new quadruple platinum milestone, smashing through 280,000 sales.

Alessia Cara’s ‘Scars To Your Beautiful’ is now double platinum (#22 to #27).

It’s been gently climbing the charts over the past seven weeks, but the Jax Jones and Raye collaboration ‘You Don’t Know Me’ finally hits the lights of the top 30 (#38 to #30). Milky Chance’s ‘Cocoon’, meantime, dips six despite picking up a new platinum accreditation.

We’ve got back to back debuts in the Nos.32 and 33 positions this week; the best of them being for Maroon 5’s new single ‘Cold’. Linkin Park and Kiiara’s ‘Heavy’ picks up the slack, premiering in position 33.

The Chainsmokers’ former #1 megahit ‘Closer’ may be slowly making its way down the charts (after 30 weeks in), but it’s still selling and still notching up the chart accolades. This week at #36 it picks up a massive ninth platinum certification, meaning it’s now smashed through more than 630,000 sales down under).

The team at Remote Control will be buoyed by the new gold certification given to Adele’s latest single ‘Water Under The Bridge’, just weeks out from the superstar’s arrival on Australian soil for her first ever tour here.

Lana Del Rey’s ‘Love’ just misses a top 40 berth, premiering at #41.

Have The Vamps peaked with their latest single ‘All Night’? It certainly appears that way; the British boybands track has eased five places this week but picked up a gold certification as consolation.

Bruno Mars’ ‘That’s What I Like’ moves into the top 50 (#51 to #47).

Last week, Justin Bieber scored a fourth platinum certification for his Major Lazer collaboration ‘Cold Water’. This week, he gets another fourth platinum certification… for his DJ Snake collaboration ‘Let Me Love You’ (#58).

Drake joins the fresh accreditation list, picking up a sixth platinum nod for his single ‘Once Dance’ (420,000 copies).

Tash Sultana’s ‘Jungle’ takes a tumble; down 19 places to #64, just ahead of a #67 debut for Flume’s new ‘Skin Companion EP II’.

Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Side To Side’ hits triple platinum (#71), but Lady Gaga’s ‘Million Reasons’ takes a tumble, slumping 35 places to #82.

There’s a new entry for Vera Blue’s ‘Private’ at #84, a big drop for The Chainsmokers’ ‘All We Know’ (#60 to #88) and a debut for DJ Khaled’s ‘Shining’, featuring Beyoncé and Jay Z, at #93.

And those Justin Bieber accreditation tweaks we were talking about before? They’re not just saved for his collaborations, seemingly. Ahead of his national tour, Universal has finally given his single ‘Sorry’ a long overdue certification update; the former #2 smash blasting from four times to seven times platinum.

Shawn Mendes’ ‘Mercy’ is now double platinum (#97) and, though it’s now out of the top 100 altogether, we can inform you that The xx single ‘On Hold’ has picked up a gold certification.
