Paul Bevan has announced his retirement from the Drive shift at ABC Newcastle.

“I need to tell you something of a personal nature. It’s not the kidney stones again, don’t panic,” he chuckled.

“I’m finishing up at the end of this year.

“I love my job, I love talking to you each afternoon, but the time has come, and I’ve opted to not be part of the Weekday lineup here at ABC Newcastle next year.

“Retirement beckons.”

Paul revealed that he won’t be gone from the station completely, and will “pop up here and there” in 2019.

“I’m sad but excited, and if you’ve retired from a job that you love then you know how I feel.”

The Drive host began his career at his local ABC radio station in 1986, and in that time has presented Weekdays on ABC Classic FM (five years), Mornings on 1233 ABC Newcastle (eight years), and more recently eight years on Drive.
