4TO relaunches as Triple M Townsville

Staff Writer

4TO Townsville is no more, with SCA officially relaunching the station as Triple M 102.3 Townsville.

The station first opened as 4TO in 1931.

As previously reported, 4TO FM will continue to broadcast Pricey for Breakfast, Chooky on Weekends and Afternoons with Minty, as well as Triple M’s nationally syndicated Drive program Kennedy Molloy.

Since 2016, SCA has rebranded 25 regional stations to ‘Hit’ and another 30 to ‘Triple M’.

“The coming together of Australia’s most recognisable radio brand and Townsville’s number 1 radio station creates an absolute powerhouse,” said SCA Townsville general manager Rob Aumend.

“It’s the perfect mix of great, local content, the widest variety of music, sport and comedy means Townsville’s 102.3 Triple M will remain at the top for a long time to come.”

The departure of 4TO FM now means that 2GO Gosford, mix94.5 Perth and 92.5 GOLD FM Gold Coast are the only SCA regional heritage stations retaining their old call signs.

KOFM Newcastle will become Triple M Newcastle on Friday November 9, 2018.

Imagine being remembered as the person in charge of regional radio at SCA when Australian radio lost its identity and years of local history. Only a few more generic stickers to go.

Can’t help but think the great Triple M is losing it’s identity in this regional rebrand. “Widest variety of music” is not ROCK.
