2XL turn 75 (hear Brad March as a jock)

Staff Writer

2XL are celebrating their 75th birthday today.

Many memories are being shared on the station as well as on their Facebook page.

Some fast facts about the station…

  • 2XL stood for 'to excel'
  • Before aligning with the ski industry in the 70's they ran everything from horse racing, book reading sessions and radio serials
  • Rumour has it, in a storm years ago their satellite dish came loose and blew down the street where one listener thought it was a UFO
  • Ex announcers include Phil O'Neil (Ugly Phil) and Brad March (hear their interview with him below)

Here is some of the old studio equipment, an on-air desk and a cart carousel….

You can see more memories from 75 years on the 2XL Facebook page here

Managing Director Kevin Blyton is the longest serving director and longest serving employee of 2XL.

This morning he chatted to Radio Today's Brad March about his days at the station and his successful career that followed…
