2EC and PowerFM raise over $100K for Tathra Bushfire victims

East Coast Radio’s flagship stations 2EC and PowerFM brought forward their yearly Radiothon to raise funds for the Tathra Bushfire Mayoral Appeal Fund.

Now in its 34th year, the Radiothon was moved from November to March to help the bushfire-ravaged NSW South Coast town of Tathra.

“With the help of an incredibly generous business community, we organised the Radiothon within three weeks,” said East Coast Radio GM Jane Edwards.

“Businesses on the South Coast donated over 400 items including a one carat diamond valued at $7,500, which was subject to an exciting bidding war in the last hour of the Radiothon on Sunday afternoon,” Ms Edwards said.

In total the Radiothon raised $106,000 – and other items donated included bathroom fit-outs, furniture, white good and electrical goods.

“It was an incredible weekend and it shows once more just how powerful and important the voice of local radio is in bringing communities together,” said Edwards.

“I congratulate our dedicated staff, including anchors Kimmi Saker, Johnny C and Kim Bowden and the behind-the-scenes staff and volunteers who made the Radiothon such an enormous success, and of course a big thank you to all the bidders and businesses and our valued listeners.”

Congratulations to the 2EC/Power team. This is what makes radio such a great business to be in. You should be as proud of your efforts as you are of your local community.
