1503 2BS Gold Bathurst proposes change to FM frequency

Former Assistant Editor

2BS Gold listeners in Bathurst may soon need to change their radio dials if they want to tune into the station, with a proposal lodged to the ACMA to have the station’s frequency changed.

2BS has proposed a change from 1503AM to 95.1 FM, in a move that aims to make the most of the higher quality and larger reach of the FM frequency in rural Australia.

“FM radio provides improved audio quality for listeners in regional areas and can be more cost-effective to operate than AM radio,” said ACMA Chair, Nerida O’Loughlin of the proposal.

“A number of regional commercial radio stations are seeking to convert their services to FM under an industry-led conversion program.

“ACMA will facilitate a conversion if we are satisfied that audiences in regional areas do not lose important radio services under the proposal,” O’Loughlin said.

If approved, the timeline would be decided by 2BS Gold.

Submissions on the proposal are being taken until June 8. Submissions can be made here.
